Tuesday January 16, 2007 Happy New Year and Thank You for Subscribing to Clarity Interpreting News!!
Arizona Association of Professional Interpreters for the Deaf I have been pleased to see our community come together professionally over the last year. The Arizona Association of Professional Interpreters for the Deaf (aapid.net) formally established a website where independent contract interpreters can market themselves as individuals. Currently there are twelve interpreters listed! This association has encouraged an evolution in our community to lessen individuals' dependence upon agencies for interpreting work. This same movement also expanded the venders for the state contract to more than double the amount on the previous contract. This offers consumers and interpreters greater choice to ensure services that best meet their needs. ArizonaRID Buzzing with New Energy! ArizonaRID also has a new name, a new website and many new faces on its board. With that, a tremendous energy has arisen locally and workshops and events have been offered monthly for the last several months! Next on the list is Cars, Cats and Cows: Interpreting Culturally Rich Realities presented by Dr. Dennis Cokely. As a strong supporter of professional development, and as one of the former presidents of AZRID I am ecstatic to see this renewed growth and energy and hope all on this list will become members as well as choose a committee to serve on. For more information, visit arizonarid.org. One-On-One Mentoring Opportunity Clarity will again be offering one-on-one mentoring in late spring. If you are interested in this ten-session program contact michelle@clarityterps.com for the initial questionnaire and pricing information. Work with Clarity As many of you know I established Clarity Interpreting Services as an expansion of the freelance interpreting services I have been providing for over the last ten years. My involvement in the interpreting community has included a number of roles and positions. My experience has led me to establish a business where professional interpreters and consumers alike feel respected. Clarity pays much attention to the selection of interpreters based on education, experience, current certification and professionalism. If you are interested in becoming an independent contractor for Clarity send your resume and copy of one of the following certifications to michelle@clarityterps.com (NAD 4 or 5, RID CI and/or CT, CSC, SC:L, CDI, CLIP:R, NIC-Certified, NIC-Advanced, NIC-Master) or fax it to 480.699.6668 and I will follow up for an interview. I look forward to meeting you! Arizona Licensure Coming Soon! Finally - as you know, licensure of Interpreters is scheduled to be in effect by October 1st of THIS YEAR. If you are not already familiar with how this will affect you I encourage you to contact the Licensure Coordinator at the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Emmett Hassen at emmett.hassen@acdhh.state.az.us for more information. Once licensure is in effect, Clarity Interpreting Services is committed to using only interpreters with valid licenses. Sincerely,
Michelle J. Monahan |
Other Clarity News Wedding Bells
Congratulations to Dawn Townsend and Ander Bolduc on their recent engagement. Best wishes to you both. Legal Workshop A Smashing Success!
Clarity was pleased to present a very successful Legal Workshop presented by John Folker last October. Thanks also goes to Lisa Tibbedeaux for the use of an actual courtroom, actual attorneys and officers in the mock trial. We had a full house, and a full schedule. As many of us learned, the legal arena requires much more than a day-long workshop and I hope to see more of this type of training in the future! Clarity has decided to support our local professional organization, ArizonaRID by becoming a member of the Professional Development Committee to help plan and sponsor workshops for the coming months. Chongo At Your Service
We are pleased to announce that Clarity's mascot, Chongo, will be available for hire as a confidentiality partner. As you can see, his ears are more than inviting, he doesn't talk back, and you can tell him all the details of your assignment and he doesn't really know what to do with the information. All that he asks for are treats, long walks and cuddling. Somehow this must be tax deductible as well. Contact Chongo for more information. |
